I have been entrusted by Gymnastics NZ (GNZ) with the responsibility to conduct an Independent Review into issues, including but not limited to the culture and behaviours that are alleged to have occurred or are continuing to occur within the gymnastics community. GNZ has agreed to add two people to assist me in this review, Rachel Vickery, a former International gymnast and a qualified Physiotherapist, now a Human Behaviour and High-Performance Coach, and Dr Lesley Nicol, former Silver Ferns captain, a qualified Physiotherapist and now a Sport and Exercise Physician.
To aid this review, we are seeking comments, advice, suggestions, and stories from as many judges, officials, coaches, gymnasts, parents, employees, Medical Professionals with experience treating gymnasts, and volunteers from the community as is possible. We want to hear your accounts, views, experiences, and ideas, challenges and perceived barriers to providing a positive experience that might help the sport and its community. This process is separate and independent from the Independent Complaints Mechanism, so your input need not outline a specific or negative incident for it to be of value to the review.
The review is being carried out independently of Gymnastics NZ on a totally confidential basis. The report will not be identifying people, institutions, or incidents. The review will look at ways and means of ensuring the future will be safe, healthy and happy for all in the community. Rachel and Lesley are available if you are more comfortable sharing your experience with a female.
If you have a specific complaint about or dispute with someone or an institution within gymnastics, there is a confidential service provided by Sport NZ, the Independent Complaints Mechanism (ICM) through which your dispute or complaint will be managed.
I would welcome hearing from you, we can be contacted via email at email@example.com .
*As per the latest update, the submission phase has now concluded.
